What is religion?
Y: Hey man, I have a question for you. You are
a student right? It is actually fit for you. The question is, what is religion?
I: Crap. I don’t think it will be a
beautiful answer. We will have a fight after this.
Y: No, I won’t. please. You can say
anything, I will not harm you.
I: Promise? I really hate a close-minded
people. And you seem like that, don’t you?
Y: Hah, fuck. No, I am not. I promise I
will keep my mouth shut. Hit me in the face if I act like fanatics.
I: Well, then. I can’t say it clearly, but
I can give you an illustration. Just imagine it, alright! So, I will say that
religion is a cure. And when there is a cure, there is a problem. And when
there is a problem, we do have some hopes. What is our hope? It is a good cure.
The thing is, when we talk about religion, is this cure really can cure
everything? I do believe that there is no cure that can solve all problems or
in this case a disease. There is no cure for all disease.
Y: So, you wanna say that religion can’t
solve all human problems? You are mocking all religions. You said they can’t
give a cure. How dare you!
I: I dare you, double dare you
motherfucker! Just listen to me when I am talking. I am not finished.
Y: You bastard. Go on.
I: I think we do agree with this imagery,
religion is a cure. So, what I am proposing is that we should keep our hope to
get the best cure. Hope is our doctor to get the cure. Hope is also the patient
feelings. We do deserve to get the best cure. This is the point. Our hope or
expectation for the cure actually should be straight forward to the disease.
Our disease needs that cure, and our hope helps us to get the cure. What I wanna
say is that we better take it easy. Yes, it is easy, worth to fight for.
However, we can’t force everyone to drink our cure. We have our own disease.
Y: I think it is too general. What I know,
religion also manages the small things. The concept of cure is narrowing the
definition of religion. Get used to it. Religion is stronger than you can
think. Apparently, beyond your narrow minded. Otherwise, I will take the doctor
part. I think it will be more suitable for this metaphor. Religion is the
doctor. He gives you the cure. All the cure you need. Religion can solve all problems.
Let’s cut this liberalistic minded. Religion has all the room for the patient.
All the medicine you need.
I: That is why, my friend, we have
different traditions. I believe that there is no cure for all disease, and you
think the opposite. We will never meet in a line.
Y: That is why I told to not to be so liberalistic.
If you are a liberalist, you have to open your mind for religion too. In here,
I think you don’t.
I: what is the point of being liberalist
and religious? We all need cures. Our hope defines what religion is. If we
still have hope, means we still a believer. I am a believer too. The point is
not what the cure is, I am far far away from this. I do believe that the cure
is the thing we have to achieve. It is not a tangible cure. It is not water,
gas, or anything that is stood still. It is something that moving us to get the
best cure. It is something alive. Something motivates you, but you don’t know,
and you still wanna achieve it.
Y: My beloved friend. That something alive
will not give you a fit guidance. It is always changing, right? So, how could
you give in if it hasn’t fix yet. My friend, it is too dangerous, believe me.
You are consumed by logic, less believing. You are in your dying time. Lye to
the ground, see the stars, feel the air and you will see. The true cure depends
to the doctor. And the doctor is what religion gives.
I: What a outstanding said. However, you
missed the spot. If the religion is the doctor, it means I have a right to
refuse the doctor suggestion. I am expecting a cure, not the man that gave me
the cure. If we use this perception, it means that the cure can be from
everyone. If you say that the cure depends to the doctor, then, the cure is
rather difficult to achieve. Moreover, it limits the doctor’s job. My problem
is way terrible. I need to get the cure immediately. And you know, the doctor
is sitting comfortably in the hospital, in the town. I am in a valley, fifty
kilometers from the town, and surrounded by mountains. I do not have a chopper
to get me in the town every time I need a cure.
Y: You are dreaming, my friend. If you
still have that hope, you can go seek the doctor. And you must. That is a life.
You say it is something we need to achieve, it is that something. Go find the
cure, learn the world works, are the ways to see the cure. And it all can be
given by the doctor. I think you do not get my point about a living thing.
Doctor is a living person. What I am saying is that the doctor has the contract
to give you the cure. You just sign the contract, pay the bill, then you will
get your very comfortable life. Interaction with the doctor is a living thing.
What is freezing is the refrigerator to keep the blood cold. Means that it has
to be original, pure, haven’t contaminated by some bacteria. It should be
frozen. The purest blood is what we assess. And yes, the best cure we see will
be that purest one. And if you talk about that mountain stuff, please think
again that the concept of doctor can be applied to everyone. It means that
someone who has the knowledge to give the cure. You are tired my friend. You don’t
even consider that there is always that person in a very small society. Very
small, remember.
I: It is very breathtaking. Our discussion
gets more intense. I hope we do not have to give a punch for each other. I hope
you so. My question is simple; wouldn’t it be possible if I chose what my cure
is or who is my doctor? I mean, based on your explanation, when the topic is
polarizing, your argument slips to mine. I always have the change to seek my
doctor. Just put it out there. Now, think about the cure. Cure is the thing
given by the doctor. And the doctor could be everyone, right? So, your living
thing is not a doctor. Otherwise, it could be anyone that has the cure.
Y: My friend, you know we can do this all
day. Finish it, or I will.
I: It is your very moment to reply my
argument. But I agree we should end this.
Y: before long, I am always thinking about
this. Am I got the wrong person? However, this person, and those capable people
next to my head, gives me strength. I don’t know, but let’s keep our hopes
flare up. Let our hope defines.
